Job Summary:
The Legal Researcher is responsible for conducting comprehensive research and analysis to support legal cases, legislation, and regulatory issues pertaining to the field of law and criminal justice. The Legal Researcher will work closely with legal teams to provide accurate and relevant information, assisting in the development of legal strategies and ensuring the organization's compliance with pertinent laws and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Conduct thorough legal research using various sources, including statutes, case law, regulations, and legal publications.
2. Analyze and interpret complex legal documents, ensuring accuracy and relevance.
3. Prepare well-structured and concise reports, memoranda, and briefs summarizing legal findings.
4. Utilize advanced research techniques, such as computer-assisted legal research tools and databases.
5. Collaborate with attorneys and legal professionals to identify and address legal issues and provide recommendations.
6. Monitor and track legal developments, legislative changes, and court decisions related to the field of law and criminal justice.
7. Assist in the preparation of legal documents, including pleadings, motions, and briefs.
8. Maintain an organized database of legal research materials, ensuring easy access and retrieval of information.
9. Stay updated on the latest legal research methodologies, tools, and technologies.
10. Attend legal seminars, workshops, and conferences to enhance knowledge and skills in legal research.
Qualifications and Skills:
1. Bachelor's degree in law, criminal justice, or a related field. A Juris Doctor (JD) degree is highly preferred.
2. Proven experience as a legal researcher or similar role, demonstrating expertise in legal research methodologies.
3. In-depth knowledge of legal principles, procedures, and terminology within the field of law and criminal justice.
4. Familiarity with legal databases and computer-assisted legal research tools (e.g., Westlaw, LexisNexis).
5. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills to effectively evaluate complex legal issues.
6. Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present legal findings in a clear and concise manner.
7. Detail-oriented with exceptional organizational skills to manage multiple tasks and prioritize deadlines.
8. Proficiency in using word processing, spreadsheet, and presentation software (e.g., Microsoft Office Suite).
9. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
